1. Rental Eligibility and Requirements:

• Booking and Age Requirements:

  • Customers whose pick-up location is in Belize City or International Airport MUST book on the AQ Belize Car Rental website at: www.aqbelizecarrental.com
  • Renters must be 21+ years to rent. Drivers aged 21-23 must meet the following requirements:
    • Take up company insurance (FULL COVERAGE).
    • Leave double CASH security deposit.
    • Provide two forms of ID.

• Identification Requirements:

  • Customers must present a valid driver's license and another form of ID:
    • For international customers: Passport is preferred.
    • For locals: Social Security is preferred.

2. Payment Methods and Security Deposits:

• Accepted Payment Methods:

  • ONLY AMEX, MasterCard, Visa Card, and Cash are accepted. DISCOVERY credit card is not accepted in Belize due to a temporary disruption in service.
  • Customers paying with CASH or debit card MUST leave a Security Deposit of US $1000-$1500(depending on the rental class).

• Declining Insurance Coverage:

   
  • Customers paying with a credit card and renting for 4days + can decline full coverage insurance, but must take the minimum CDW and DP for a 3 days rental, more than 3 days rental can decline our full insurances but will require to leave a SECURITY DEPOSIT of USD $1000-$1500 (depending on the rental class).
  • Credit card customers renting for more than 3 days can decline insurance but will be 100% responsible for damages to rental weather fault is accepted or not.
  • Debit card customers and customers paying with cash cannot decline insurances and must purchase FULL COVERAGE (CDW, Non-CDW, DP, Tire, and Windshield) and will be required to leave a cash  deposit. of USD $1000-$1500.

3. International Travel Restrictions:

• Traveling to Guatemala and Mexico: 
  • Rentals are allowed in TIKAL, Guatemala, and Chetumal, Mexico, but renters are fully responsible for the vehicle outside of Belize.
  • An authorization letter (with 48-hour notice) is required for crossing the Guatemalan border, and a fee of USD$49 will apply for the permit letter, additional border crossing fees are the customers responsibility.
  • Mexican Insurance must be purchased prior to going to Mexico through AQ Belize for Mexico; customers must obtain their own Guatemalan Insurance in Guatemala.
  • A security deposit of USD $1000 is required for rentals going to Mexico and Guatemala.

4. Insurance Coverage and Responsibilities:

• Mandatory Insurance and Coverage Options:

  • Full coverage (CDW, Non-CDW, DP, Tire, and Windshield) is mandatory for rentals of 1 or 2 days.
  • CDW coverage can be purchased alone if renting for 3+ days.
  • Customers renting for 4 days+ can decline our full insurance coverages (Security deposit will apply USD $1000-$1500)
  • Customers with our CDW and Non-CDW insurance are responsible for the first US$1000 DEDUCTIBLE before insurance covers damages.
  • DP (Deductible Protection) can be purchased to waive the US$1000 deductible.

• Credit Card Insurance Clauses:

  • Customers who decline our insurance and use their credit card insurance are 100% responsible for damages. Full payment for damages must be made upon return of the rental, and customers may seek reimbursement from their credit card company.

5. Rental Terms and Conditions:

• Returning the Vehicle:

  • Vehicles must be returned at the agreed time and location. The contract holder is the only one authorized to return the rental, additional driver not authorized to return rental.
  • Late returns incur a charge of US$10.00 per hour, and after 4 hours, a full day rate may apply.
  • Rentals must be returned with the same fuel level as when rented. Any shortage will result in a refueling fee of USD $10 per gallon plus a USD$10 service charge. NO REFUNDS ON EXCESSIVE FUEL.

• Extensions and Emergencies:

  • Rental extensions must be paid before the original contract expires. Failure to extend on time will void the rental agreement and insurances, and the customer will be responsible for any issues.
  • Failure to contact the office for extensions within 24 hours will result in the rental being report missing/stolen.

6. Vehicle Usage Rules:

• Driving Regulations:

  • Highway speed limits are 55mph/90kmh, and village speed limits range from 15mph to 25mph.
  • Customers should note that while our major roads to are paved, a 2WD High Clearance Vehicle is recommended for most tourist attractions destinations. A 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended for travelling in Mountain Pine Ridge and Terrain Roads.

• Accidents and Incidents:

  • If involved in an accident, call 911 and do not move or abandon the vehicle until police and insurance inspectors arrive. Notify us immediately.
  • A USD $200.00 fee will apply for violating the non-smoking policy inside the rental vehicle.
  • A cleaning fee of US$25 and PET Fee USD$50 will be charged if the vehicle is returned in a condition considered dirty beyond normal use.

7. Miscellaneous:

• Additional Fees:

  • A drop-off fee (USD$200 and up) will apply if the rental is dropped off at our sister company in Belize City. Charges will be calculated at the time of booking or request depending on the rental class. 
  • Customer will need to make prior arrangements if he/she wishes to drop off the rental at any other pre-authorized locations aside from our MAIN OFFICE IN BELIZE CITY, AIRPORT or PLACENCIA OFFICE. 

• Important Notes:

  • When making a left-hand turn in Belize, you must pull over to the extreme right side of the road and allow both lanes of traffic to clear before turning left.
